I get my blank skateboards from Skate Page. https://skatepaige.com/
I started with a skateboard blank and than cut a pattern out of
computer paper. I taped the pattern to half-inch MDF
and made the first cut using the table saw and then the bandsaw.
I used a sanding block to send out the blade marks left by the
bandsaw. Next I cut a piece of 6 inch aluminum flashing to length and
then taped it on to the MDF pattern. I used a flush cut bit in
the router to cut out the aluminum. Next I used a straight edge and a razor
blade to cut the aluminum pattern in half and then traced it onto the
Then I used contact cement on both the skateboard and the aluminum. I
used wooden sticks to help place the aluminum in position and then
used even pressure to attach the aluminum to the board. I used the
palm sander to sand the aluminum and the sander also helps to apply
even pressure and make a good bond with the contact cement. Then I
taped the aluminum out using fine line tape and painters tape and
primed the skateboard with an acrylic primer and once that was dry I
sprayed the board with spray paint. Once the paint was dry I removed the tape and wet
sanded the aluminum. And then the final step was to wax the board
using butchers wax.
This project was inspired by the sculpture of Donald Judd and Henry Moore
